Ford Motor Company, or simply Ford as we know it better, is an American car manufacturer. One of the largest automotive companies in the world and the second largest in the country (after General Motors Corporation). The company was founded in 1903. The headquarters is located in the suburbs of Detroit. Ford produces cars, commercial cars, trucks, buses.

The first Ford car was manufactured

The company in 1903 June 16 was founded by the well-known Henry Ford and 11 other associate investors. H. Ford was 40 years old then. The first cars went into production in 1903 after raising $28,000 from investors. In the early years, the company produced cheap compact Ford T cars. They were assembled by groups of two or three men from their own or ordered car parts. In the beginning, the company produced only a few of these models a day at its factory in Detroit, Michigan. In 1908 mass production of cars was invented. In 1913 the world's first car assembly line was launched. This date is historic for the Ford plant, as this choice was a huge milestone in the production and development of the Ford company.

In 1951, Ford Motor Company conducted the world's first car safety tests, and since 1955, they have started using dummies with electronic sensors. Mass production of trucks began in 1958, and light vans, pick-ups and small buses in 1960. The 1985 Ford Scorpio featured the first anti-lock braking system.

Today, Ford has factories in Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, China and several other countries, including South Africa. in 1989 Ford bought Jaguar, Daimler, Land Rover and Rover in Great Britain and Volvo in Sweden. Ford also owns 33.4% of Mazda. In total, Ford owns or has owned Daimler (as part of Jaguar), Edsel, Ford, Jaguar, Lagonda (as part of Aston Martin), Lanchester (as part of Jaguar/Daimler), Land Rover , Lincoln, Mazda, Mercury, Merkur, Rover (name only) and Volvo (makes passenger cars). Aston Martin, Daimler Motor Company, Lagonda, and Volvo are all managed by Premier Automotive Group.

Although Ford Motor Company sells Ford vehicles outside the United States, each market is customized according to the priorities of that location. At first, the same American cars were sold for all markets of the world. Later, cars adapted to the European market were developed and produced in Europe. Attempts to globalize car models have always ended in failure. The popular European Ford Mondeo sold poorly in the US market, while the popular US market Ford Taurus sold poorly in Japan and Australia. The small European Ford Ka was not in demand in Japan at all. Australians ditched the Ford Mondeo as buyers preferred Australian Falcon models. The only exception is the European Ford Focus, which sells well on both sides of the Atlantic.

Today, Ford is one of the largest and most famous car manufacturers in the world, so it's no secret that they are popular in Lithuania as well.
