The main difference between a standard car rental and a replacement car rental is that often the replacement car is reimbursed by the insurance company. A temporary vehicle can be provided to you based on your existing comprehensive insurance contract, or if you are a victim after a traffic accident, you will be paid by the culprit's insurance company.

As in the case of a standard car rental, a valid passport or identity card and driver's license must be presented before the rental. If the car is rented by a legal entity, it is additionally necessary to submit the company's registration certificate, a power of attorney that gives the right to represent the legal entity. Unlike a standard car rental, a replacement car rental can either be paid for by the customer or paid for by the insurance company. If the insurance company pays for the car rental, it is necessary to coordinate the obligation to pay for the services provided before the rental. It is necessary to note that in all cases the client's responsibility (franchise) is reserved on the bank card of the person who rents the car.

Do you own a replacement car?

1. If you are the victim of a traffic accident, you have the right to apply to the culprit's insurance company for compensation and the provision of a replacement car;
2. A replacement car is provided if your car is being repaired at a car service;
3. The insurance company may require the rental agreement and invoice for the replacement car, so always have these documents with you. It is necessary to note that the rental period, car model and rental price must be reasonable and objective;
4. The replacement car must meet the same basic characteristics as your damaged car and be a car of a similar class;
5. The rental price of the replacement car must correspond to the average market daily rental price. Most often, insurance companies specify the daily price of car rental, which cannot exceed the replacement car service you receive. You can also rent a more expensive car, but you will have to cover the price difference yourself;
6. If your car is damaged beyond repair, you can be provided with a replacement car until the insurance payout date;
7. If the insurance company does not agree to pay the costs of renting a replacement car, they have the right to apply to the Bank of Lithuania and appeal the decision made by the insurance company.
8. In any case, when repairing your car, you can rent a replacement car at your own expense, even if the insurance company does not reimburse the rental of the replacement car.
